Wordle 24 Feb

Not a lot GOING for this START, as far as The Nerd was concerned. But a chance to give a big SHOUT out to the job teachers have done throughout the COVID CRISIS. Keeping lessons on for the most part when infections were high. The Nerd TRIED out nine different letters in the first 10 here, and FOUND a home for the E, and lucked out with a consonant. But he was soon to have grounds to LODGE a complaint about today's word... It's cold. It's SNOWYin a lot of places. The Winter Olympics has just finished. Why not this? The Nerd was confident in solving today's teaser within the allotted 6 guesses thanks to having 3 letters in PLACE after this GUESS. But The Nerd confesses, his next GUESS took a full 10 minutes of thinking time. And he wasn't HAPPY ABOUT it. What! Hold on a minute! BLOKE??? In a game emanating from the United States. Do they even use that word over that side of the pond? The Nerd didn't THINK so. And yet after 10 mins of trying to find an alternative,

A WORDLE ASIDE

The Nerd has no DOUBT that the inventor of the game won't care a jot, but it would have been GREAT if the name of the game was five letters long. WORDL perhaps?

Is 5.24am the IDEAL time to be Wordling? The Nerd apparently thought so yesterday. He was up AFORE the cock crowed, humming a U2 song. Its TITLE didn't have five letters, but this one does: Thanks Bono and co. A decent START. But WHERE to do we go from here? The Nerd needed to rule out more vowels so plumped for PRIDE did not come before AFALL WHICH would not have been allowed as it's not a word. With this GUESS The Nerd was cooking on gasoline. He knew it was TRO-E. And with TROPE out of the question (see FIRST GUESS), GLORY was within REACH... Huzzah! A CELEBRATORY 3

Your Nerd was hungry when attempting this Wordle. A healthy wholemeal BREAD sandwich, with a scattering of pre-grated cheese and a SWIRL of SALAD CREAM was BEING enjoyed ALONG with Mini Cheddars (Red Leicester) on the side as this starter word was entered: A SMALL fanfare, if you please. Two letters in the RIGHT place, straight off the bat. Pass the Nerd more SALAD CREAM. However, confidence was SHORT LIVED when the Nerd realised THERE were QUITE a few 5 letter WORDSwith an N and C in that PLACE. Time to take the plunge... More food, glorious food and oh, so CLOSE to GLORY! Success just a nibble away. But wait. Scanning the keypad, THERE were STILL a few letters that would sit nicely with INCE. Hold the champagne. Noooooo! Not a disaster, but the sandwich was cast ASIDE at this POINT. A missed opportunity for a 3 RIGHT THERE. What options are left? Is PINCE a THING?  Ta da! The Nerd did WINCEa tad as this was a possible 2 that got away. 4
